Kurzfassung auf Deutsch:
Die Stadtbücherei Frankfurt am Main nimmt mit den Stadtteilbibliotheken Gallus und Sindlingen am EU-Projekt „Libraries for All. European Strategy for Multicultural Education (ESME)“ teil.
Das Projekt ist Teil des Grundtvig-Programms für lebenslanges Lernen der Europäischen Union. Bibliotheken in vier Ländern Europas (Deutschland, Österreich, Schweden, Tschechische Republik) entwickeln interkulturelle Dienstleistungen, die sich vor allem um Integration und lebenslanges Lernen drehen. Dabei wird auch ein schriftlicher Leitfaden entstehen, der die Erfahrungen der Projektbibliotheken festhält und ihre Übertragung auf andere europäische Kommunen ermöglicht.
Neu ist vor allem die Einbeziehung der Migrationsperspektive: Ein interkultureller Beirat („Advisory Board for Multiculturalism“) berät die Bibliotheken bei der Bedarfsermittlung sowie der Gestaltung ihrer Angebote.

In 2008 the 2-year-project “ESME/Libraries for All” started – funded with support from the European Commission and focussing on integration of migrants. ESME’s (European Strategy for Multicultural Education) aim is to initiate an EU-wide upgrade of local public libraries into “Libraries for All” with a European perspective.
By upgrading local public libraries into "Libraries for All", the cultural capital of the local migrant population will become an integral part of local public libraries. By serving the community as a whole, the libraries will be enhanced into local contact points for implementing European integration strategies.
The pilot projects will include libraries in four different European regions (Austria, Sweden, Germany and Czech Republic). A central focus will be the introduction of Advisory Boards for Multiculturalism (ABM) for each library. The ABM will consist of librarians and specifically qualified members of the local immigrant communities.
Further aims and results are:
• a project website (www.librariesforall.eu)
• a cycle of seminars for librarians, immigrant organisations and expert organisations in integration in the four involved European countries
• a manual on how to create a “Library for all”
• Sustainability/dissemination: with the cooperation of local partners other public libraries should initiate multicultural services in their library.
